Kilriver Trust
“ It is morally incumbent for those in the world that ‘have’ to gift resources to the world’s ‘have-not’s……”
Desmond Tutu 2003.
Kilriver supports two charities by giving time, contacts and financial support. Its chosen specialties are support for those suffering from poor mental health in the UK and the children of West Africa.
Mental Health in the UK
Kilriver supports the work of the genius that is Simon Parke (www.simonparke.com).
Simon Parke was a priest in the Church of England for twenty years, before leaving for fresh adventures. He worked in a supermarket for three years, stacking shelves, working on the till, chairing the shop union and laughing and crying with customers and staff alike.
He is now a freelance author, journalist and therapist, committed to the promotion of mental health both through his writings and through seminars, workshops, retreats and one-to-one meetings. The Kilriver Trust enables Simon to offer help and support to those who otherwise could not afford it. ‘Nothing can replace face-to-face work’ says Simon, ‘because correct diagnosis is at the heart of all mental healing, and this cannot be done by e mail. Kilriver helps me to say ‘Yes’ to anyone in need.’
Simon’s books include ‘The Beautiful Life’ (Bloomsbury) ‘The Enneagram’, (Lion) ‘Shelf Life’ his supermarket diary, (Random House) and ‘One-Minute Mystic’ (Hay House). ‘One-Minute Mindfulness’ is published January 2011, also by Hay House.
The Children of West Africa
Kilriver supports the work of Plan Ireland (www.plan.ie) which is part of the Plan International NGO. Plan focuses on long term development projects for children covering health, education, habitat, livelihood and relationship building.
Plan’s Mission – Plan strives to achieve lasting improvements in the quality of life of deprived children in West Africa through a process that unites people across cultures and adds meaning and value to their lives by:
- Enabling deprived children, their families and their communities to meet their basic needs and to increase their ability to participate in and benefit from their societies.
- Building relationships to increase understanding and unity among people of different cultures and countries.
- Promoting the rights and interests of the world’s children.
